The holy month of Ramadan has begun in Dubai. Every year the occasion is marked by keeping fast by millions of people. Also, it is the time when family members and friends get together to break the fast before dawn( Suhoor) and after sunset(Iftar). People with their relatives visit mosques to offer prayers as well.
But this year due to the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic, there are certain Ramadan etiquette which needs to altered a bit. The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority – NCEMA has listed several measures for people to adhere during Ramadan. Talk to any home health care in Dubai, the experts and doctors also recommend the same.
Since the transmission of Covid-19 is caused due to close contact, physical distancing measures must be followed.
Measures you should take to welcome Ramadan as per NCEMA
- It is advised that all public gatherings in the evening during Ramadan should be strictly avoided. The exchange of food between different households and family gatherings should not be held. Additionally, feast associated with Suhoor and Iftar can be shared by members of the family alone.
- Distribution of meals to welcome Ramadan is common. The COVID-19 PCR test and the results show that Covid-19 cases are rising. Thus, distributing food is now prohibited around homes and mosques. Anyone who wish to donate food can do so through charities.
- It is highly recommended to give Zakah using electronic mediums alone. When it comes to healthcare, you can consult online doctors as well.
- Taraweeh prayers which is an integral part of holy month can be held under strict Covid-19 precautionary measures laid down by the authorities. Also, it is now ruled that mosques will be closed immediately after each prayer so as to prevent spreading of the virus. Also, it is advised to conduct religious reading through electronic devices only.
- Qiyam-ul-layl is the prayer conducted in the last 10 days of Ramadan. The decision on the same will be taken after assessment.
- Besides these measures, World Health Organization has listed various considerations people can follow during welcoming Ramadan. WHO has encouraged religious leaders to be proactive in decision making, communication and executing the same. It also advises high risk groups or people with certain symptoms to avoid stepping out of their houses and attending religious events. The elderly and people with different physical conditions should not attend gatherings of any kind as they are more vulnerable to the infection.
Wudu is a healthy practise already performed by people before offering prayers. Thus, WHO recommends to ensure better hand washing facility at the entrance of the mosque. Personal prayer rugs can be used instead of using carpets. Also, necessary displays can be put in place to warn and caution people about Covid-19 and the necessity to follow measures.
Connection between fasting and Covid-19 infection risk has not been done yet. Healthy people can fast and others can take health check up in Dubai to ascertain your health status.
